The Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, will launch the Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture campaign on 28 October 2014. The campaign, aptly named UNITE, is a celebration of the life, values and legacy of South Africa’s first democratically elected President, the late Dr Nelson Mandela. The UNITE campaign aims to mobilise society to emulate President Mandela’s unwavering commitment to justice, equality, non-racialism, social cohesion, nation building, selflessness and service to humanity.
Sport and culture have proved to be uniquely placed to UNITE the nation and make everyday a Mandela Day. Minister Mthethwa will unveil details of the UNITE campaign and present planned cultural activities for the period of the campaign.
