Minister Nathi Mthethwa hosts Creative Arts Imbizo in Nyanga, 23 Oct

Arts and Culture Minister, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, will host an Imbizo to discuss sustainable opportunities available in the arts, culture and heritage sector sector and avail a platform for discussion on the White Paper on Arts, Culture and Heritage Policy Review. Minister Mthethwa also will engage in discussions about the challenges artists face in the locality.

Community dialogues are important platforms in providing interactive spaces in which community members can voice their concerns and together find solutions to problems. A rich and vibrant cultural life should be at the heart of every community.

The Department of Arts and Culture is in the process of reviewing the White Paper and has initiated sectoral and provincial consultations throughout the country.  Communities are faced with challenges such as, lack of access to information, that make it difficult for all artists  to be aware of the opportunities offered by the Department. Yet work has been done and enabling conditions are being put in place especially for artists to create businesses in the arts or hone their skills that can provide a better life for all.

It is against this background that the Department embarks on an Imbizo to provide a platform for the Nyanga community at large to discuss the difficulties faced by artists and the community as a whole in accessing the arts.

Media are invited to attend Imbizo as follows:

Date: 23 October 2015
Time: 10h00
Venue: KTC Hall in Nyanga Township (Cape Town)
