Minister Naledi Pandor and European Union Commissioner of Research, Science and Innovation to visit local youth centre on World AIDS Day

As part of World AIDS Day, the Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor and the European Union Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Carlos Moedas, will visit the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation (DTHF) youth centre.

Commissioner Moedas and a high-level delegation from the EU are in South Africa to launch the second phase of the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTPII) on Tuesday, 2 December. The EDCTP funds some of the clinical trials at the DTHF.

Prof Linda-Gail Bekker, Chief of Operations at the DTHF, will speak on the progress being made at the coal face of HIV in South Africa and the impact of new research on the communities most affected, particularly youth.

As their contribution to World AIDS Day 2014 the young people are circulating a video they have made titled: “AIDS is going to lose”
