The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, will address the opening session of the inaugural colloquium of the Centre for International Teacher Education, scheduled to take place tomorrow, 12 February 2015 in Cape Town.
The focus of the colloquium, themed "International and national perspectives on teacher education in South Africa ‑ 21 years into democracy", will be on sharing experiences about teacher education from the perspective of national and international experts and practitioners to inform South African research, policy and practice.
Some of the distinguished presenters will include Prof. Robert Tabulawa (Dean of Faculty of Education, University of Botswana), Dr Edem Adubra (Head of the International Task Force on Teachers for Education for All), and Dr Maha Shuayb (Director of the Centre for Lebanese Studies in Beirut), as well as two speakers from Tshwane University of Technology, Prof. Harry Rampa (Head of Department: Education Studies) and Prof. Anil Kanjee (Research Professor in Education Studies).
Minister Pandor's speech will focus on the Department of Science and Technology'ssupport for critical policy research in areas of pressing social concerns like education through the South African Research Chairs Initiative, which is managed through the National Research Foundation.
The colloquium will be attended by Cape Peninsula University of Technology's management, as well as academics, educators, postgraduate students and others interested in teacher education.
