Minister Motshekga launches International Mathematical Olympiad

The Minister of Basic Education, Mrs Angelina Motshekga invites media to the launch of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) which will be held on African soil for the first time.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) in collaboration with the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF), will be hosting the 55th International Mathematical Olympiad that will be held at the University of Cape Town (UCT) from 3 to 13 July.

The IMO is perceived as the World Cup of Mathematics and is historically the privilege of developed countries to host. DBE is excited to be a part of this prestigious event that brings the brightest young minds around the world together to solve some of the toughest mathematics problems. 

Should you wish to observe the Olympiad an opportunity to register for accreditation will also be provided

Please note that no media will be allowed on the UCT campus if not accredited in advance
