Minister Mondli Gungubele conducts analogue switch-off in Stellenbosch, 31 Jul

Following his announcement on 21 June 2023 of the Two-Step Approach to analogue switch-off and end of dual illumination, the

Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Hon Mondli Gungubele will switch off the last analogue transmitter above 694 MHz on Monday, 31 July 2023 to mark the successful conclusion of Step 1 of the Two-Step Approach to ultimate analogue switch-off in the country.

The successful conclusion of this step confirms that this is indeed a win-win approach as announced by the Minister. It will ensure that telecommunication companies have full access to the high demand radio frequency spectrum they bought at last year’s successful auction conducted by ICASA and are able to rollout resilient networks and contribute to universal access to the internet in the country.
