Minister Molewa to launch the National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Report 2012/13

The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Mrs Edna Molewa, will launch the 2012/13 National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Report (NECER) in Pretoria on Sunday, 10 November 2013.

The objective of the NECER is to provide a national overview of environmental compliance and enforcement activities undertaken by relevant institutions across the country during the period 1 April 2012 to 31 March 2013.

The report includes the work of the Environmental Management Inspectorate (EMI), commonly known as the Green Scorpions. The Green Scorpions are a network of environmental compliance and enforcement officials from national, provincial and municipal government. It is these EMIs that are tasked with ensuring the implementation of, and adherence to specific pieces of national environmental legislation.

The media briefing will provide a platform for the Minister to provide details on the findings of the report, including some of the most prevalent environmental crimes reported during the 2012/13 period.

The details of the briefing are as follows:
