Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane participates in panel discussion at Directors Event, 8 Jun

The Minister of Science and Technology, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, will take part in a panel discussion in Johannesburg on Friday, 8 June on how South Africa can use technology to promote inclusive growth.

The panel discussion will form part of the Directors Event, a one-day conference organised annually by MMI Holdings in association with the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to explore issues around building the nation.

The Directors Event brings together the country's most influential leaders to participate in hard-hitting discussions on pertinent issues such as youth employment and entrepreneurship.

Technology – particularly mobile technology – has made a significant difference to citizens' lives by providing them with access to products and services they were previously denied.

More than providing the previously unbanked with access to financial services, technology has the potential to play a meaningful role in ensuring inclusive growth by opening up new opportunities in a myriad of industries.

However, delays in policy implementation, shortfalls in basic education, and economic constraints have been identified as key factors retarding growth in South Africa's technological capabilities.

How the country should be addressing these issues, and how to balance short and long-term goals for inclusive growth, will be the focus of this panel discussion.
