Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant brings services and opportunities to the Khayelitsha community through Jobs Fair
In response to the Presidential Jobs Summit, Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant will host a Jobs Fair, an initiative bringing potential employers and work-seekers together under one roof.
The Jobs Fair will take place at the Khayelitsha Stadium in the Western Cape.
The Jobs Fair, spearheaded by Public Employment Services (PES) branch of the Department of Labour is aimed at giving work-seekers an opportunity to meet with potential employers who can assist with their placement in different forms of employment including learnerships, internships or job opportunities.
The day-long event will also provide work-seekers with information on career guidance, how to apply for jobs as well as to prepare them for job interview processes.
Different institutions such as SETAs will also be available to provide information on self-employment initiatives and funding. Other government departments, Learning institutions, trade unions, private employers, Independent Electoral Commission, Department of Home Affairs as well as the department’s entities such as the Unemployment Insurance Fund and the Compensation Fund are expected to grace the Jobs Fair.
The Jobs Fair initiative is one of a basket of interventions by the department to alleviate the crisis of unemployment especially that of youth in South Africa was launched by Oliphant in 2012. With the initiative, Oliphant seeks to build closer working relationships with other social partners and providing a link between work-seekers and potential job opportunities.
