Following the sad news of the passing on of Vuyisile Qunta, Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa, Fikile Mbalula, will visit the family in Langa Township, Cape Town to convey condolences and support the family during these difficult times.
Qunta, u-Tata as the Minister calls him, is a former employee of the Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa, who worked in the International Relations office in his later years in the Department. He had passion and was involved in the development of Sport at grass root level.
Within the rugby circles and in Sport in general, Qunta is known as a walking encyclopedia. Qunta was a writer and a historian par excellence.
When the Springbok went to play in New Zealand during the Rugby World Cup in 2011, he was a guest of the Minister and delivered a thought provoking, grounds breaking, appealing and a moving address to the South African citizens in New Zealand on the evolution of rugby in South Africa, particularly on the alternative rugby structures during the 1970s, 80s and 90s.
It is against this background that members of the media are invited to the visit by the Minister.
