Minister Mbalula hosts both Gary Kirsten and Lusaphon April

 – The Minister of Sport and Recreation SA, Mr Fikile Mbalula, will as part of the Department of Sport and Recreation SA Budget Vote Activities for 2013/14 host the outgoing Proteas Coach, Gary Kirsten and the Hannover Marathon Winner Lusapho April. Minister Mbalula will also donate Sporting Equipment to iQhayiya High School and Tafelsig Secondary School.

Minister Mbalula, will thank Gary Kirsten for the role he played as one of the South African flag-bearers as both a player and coach of the National Cricket Team, The Proteas.  “Gary Kirsten is a role model par-excellence.  He came, he saw, he conquered and has the ICC World Cup Gold medal to prove this.  It was hurting for South Africans seeing him lifting the ICC World Cup Trophy with a foreign country.  We had, in him, believed he could lead us to the same glory but we understand his reasons for taking an early shower” said Minister Mbalula, who will also hosts Hannover Marathon winner Lusapho April.

“Many a time our athletes leave our shores to fly our South African flag and they bring the glory home unnoticed.  This should not be happening.  These athletes are representing the country and we need to celebrate their success.  Lusapho went to Germany, and twice he won the marathon.  We are grateful that in him we will have the next Joisah Tugwane, Matthews Temane, Xolile Yawa, Matthews Motshwarateu and the likes” continued Mbalula.

Minister Mbalula will also donate school sport equipment to iQhayiya High School in Khayelitsha and Tafelsig Secondary School in Mitchels Plain.  “School Sport programme’s relevance in the country is huge and impactful in future. It remains the bedrock for sport development in the country.  Donating the school sport equipment to these schools is our commitment to water the seed to grow and produce fruits for us” concluded Minister Mbalula.
