The Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME), Ms. Maropene Ramokgopa, will, on Friday 19 January 2024, conduct the Back To School Campaign at Mamelodi East Prevocational School in the Gauteng province as part of the reopening of schools for the 2024 academic year.
The visit is part of the nationwide ‘Back To School Campaign’ led by different sectors of society to motivate learners on the importance of education and promote collaboration amongst stakeholders in improving the education sector. In addition, the visit kickstarts the frontline and monitoring work led by the DPME that will focus on conducting extensive oversight monitoring to assess and verify progress on the transformation of services in Special Schools across all provinces for the first quarter of 2024.
The government’s commitment to the inclusive education model requires cross-sectorial collaboration and adherence to the legislative and developmental prescripts such as the Education White Paper 6 on Special Needs Education, the National Development Plan 2030 (NDP), and the current Medium-Term Strategic Framework (MTSF) 2019 – 2024 amongst others aimed at ensuring all special schools receive appropriate, quality education.
The Minister will be supported by the officials from DPME’s Frontline Monitoring Unit to conduct School Readiness Monitoring to assess the state of readiness in the basic education sector and to further ensure rapid intervention to challenges that might impact effective teaching and learning.
As part of the visit, Minister Ramokgopa will engage with the provincial Department of Education, school management, teachers, parents, members of the school governing body, and the learners.
