Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane visits Ugu District as part of District Development Model, 12 Nov

Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will join the President in leading the District Development Model (DDM) visit to Ugu District, KwaZulu-Natal, today, Friday, 12 November 2021.

The visit will focus on the development of the Eastern Seaboard traversing the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces along a 600km stretch between the eThekwini and Buffalo City Metros.

The Eastern Seaboard Development spans across two provinces, 4 districts and 17 municipalities situated along the 600km coastline. This coastal development is an example what we can achieve if we plan and work together across spheres towards building inclusive local economies through leveraging district endowments, comparative advantages and optimising industrial structures.

The DDM methodology seeks to address better planning and integration within government and between government and social partners, with a view of enabling inclusive growth and development. The majority of people in the four districts comprise of women and youth, therefore this development wishes to relalise a plan that is inclusive and equitable for these groups of people in the districts.
