Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane to host engagement with women in the Judiciary

The Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities in Partnership with UN Women will host a dialogue with women in the judiciary, including civil society organisations to discuss multiple challenges that women face and how the judiciary can be an enabler in ending gender inequality.

The dialogue with women in the judiciary will close Women’s Month 2019 and the dialogue will be extended to the broader society through the hashtag #WHATWOMENWANT. The dialogue will also respond to the questions that women in their diversity will raise through social media platforms.

Since the dawn of democracy progressive legislation have been promulgated that serve to protect women and ensure gender equality, however, there are pieces of legislation that contradict each other that must be reviewed to ensure harmonisation. One of the commissions will focus soley on this area – reviewing those parts of legislation that are at loggerheads with the department’s vision of an equal society.
