Celebrating 20 years of women's progress in South Africa
The Minister of the Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Lulu Xingwana, will host a Women’s National Consultation forum under the theme: “Celebrating 20 Years of Women’s Progress in South Africa”.
The forum is scheduled to take place as follows:

The forum will amongst many others, focus on the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Bill, access to land and their participation in the fight against hunger, access and participation of women and/or girls to education, training, science and technology, women abuse and gender based violence: successes, remaining challenges and future interventions.
A delegation of 300 women representative of the nine provinces, various structures and sectors, will also enlighten stakeholders and the women of South Africa on the provisions in the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality (WEGE) Bill passed by Parliament on 4 March 2014.
The two day session will further reflect on South Africa’s progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) documented in the Country Report approved by Cabinet in 2013, ahead of South Africa’s participation in the 58th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York as from 10 – 21 March 2014.
Women’s achievements and progress in South Africa will be celebrated as part of the International Women’s Day which is on the 8th of March. The UN Women’s theme this year is “Equality for Women is Progress for all”.
