Minister Zulu to motivate youth in conflict with the law at Father Smkhatshwa Secure Care Centre in Soshanguve

The Minister of Social Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu, will on Friday, June 28, motivate youth in conflict with the law at Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa Secure Care Centre, in Soshanguve. The event will be held under national youth commemoration theme, “25 Years of Democracy: A Celebration of Youth Activism.”

Father Mkhatshwa Secure Care Centre provides care and support to young persons who are battling with substance abuse and other behavioural problems. This initiative is about ensuring that despite the nature of offences committed; young offenders do not feel neglected isolated from societal activities.

Minister’s visit to the centre is part of what the National Development Plan (NDP) Vision 2030 seeks to achieve which to foster a sense of national cohesion, while acknowledging the country’s diversity, and inculcate a spirit of patriotism. This NDP’s goal can be realised through visible and active participation in different youth initiatives, projects and nation-building activities.

Change agents who previously lived in secure care centres and former prisoner; will on the day, be afforded an opportunity to engage 50 young offenders aged between 18 and 21 years through motivational talks and encourage them about possibilities of living positive lives in their respective communities.
