Minister Lindiwe Zulu hands over tools and equipment to informal business owners in Durban, 26 Nov

Minister of Small Business Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu, MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Sihle Zikalala and the Executive Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, will, on Monday, 26 November 2018, hand over tools and equipment to informal business owners in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
 
Minister Zulu is on a nationwide campaign to uplift township and rural economies across the country. The informal sector has been identified by government as critical to addressing the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality. In this regard, the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) developed. Among these programmes is the Informal and Micro Enterprise Development Programme (IMEDP), which focuses on skills development, mentorship and the provision of basic tools and equipment relevant to the informal business.
 
“Our interventions in the informal economy seeks to create a conducive environment for informal businesses to grow and thrive so that they can take their rightful places in the mainstream economy”, said Minister Zulu.
