Health Minister to lead World Immunisation and Malaria commemorative event

Pretoria: Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla will next week (Monday, 25 April) lead the commemorative event in Ehlanzeni District, Mpumalanga to mark World Immunisation and Malaria Awareness Days.

The events forms part of government efforts to promote immunisation to highlight the benefits of using vaccines as an effective weapon to protect people of all ages against infectious, but preventable diseases such as Covid 19, Polio and Measles.

The department will also use the same event to create awareness about Malaria and mobilise communities and stakeholders to participate in the malaria control programmes through health education as well as provision of home-based treatment and use personal protective measure against mosquito bites. 

Minister Phaahla will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, Mpumalanga MEC for Health Ms Sasekani Manzini and leaders of various local and international organisations including traditional leaders. 

Integrated health screening and testing services, including COVID-19 vaccination services will be available and accessible on the day.
