Minister of Transport, Mr Joe Maswanganyi, will officially launch the 2016/17 State of Safety Report on 20th November 2017 in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg.
This comprehensive overview of South Africa’s state of rail safety is published annually by the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR).
The Report measures the pulse of railway safety in South Africa and provides a foundation for research into new solutions that will enable operators to accurately address identified areas of risk that impede railway safety.
The Report will be launched under the theme “All aboard: A journey to zero occurrences.” The launch will consist of commissions during which rail experts, industry captains and stakeholders will deliberate on possible solutions to improve safety and commit to a course of action.
It is possible to improve safety on railways when all the efforts of improving systems are aligned and coordinated. This dialogue is key to ensuring that all stakeholders understand their role in reducing the number of railway occurrences.
