Minister Jeff Radebe to officially open Gelvandale Court in Port Elizabeth

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Jeff Radebe will officially open the newly built Gelvandale, Port Elizabeth Branch’s Court in Eastern Cape Province on Wednesday, 23 April 2014, at 09h00. The opening of the newly built Gelvandale Branch Court exhibits the department’s efforts to bring justice closer to the people and to improve infrastructural development.

Gelvandale court was proclaimed as a holding court in addition to Port Elizabeth seal of magistracy on the 01 November 1976. It is situated in Northern Areas of Port Elizabeth previously serviced coloured community and is servicing Gelvandale and Bethelsdorp Police Stations. Currently the court is a branch court of Port Elizabeth Magistrate Court that hears criminal cases and will add family courts such as maintenance and domestic violence as from 2 May 2014.

The official opening of the court will be followed by an Imbizo, during which members of the community will have an opportunity to directly interact with the Minister and other panel members on all issues related to justice services.
