Minister Gwede Mantashe hosts Mining Charter Summit, 7 to 8 Jul

The Minister of Mineral Resources, Mr Gwede Mantashe will host a two-day Summit on the Mining Charter this weekend, to further engage with stakeholders on the draft Charter.

This follows stakeholder engagements held across the country on the Mining Charter, during which the department listened to stakeholder concerns and inputs on the Mining Charter.

The Mining Charter, developed in terms of Section 100 of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA) aims to ensure meaningful participation by black people in this critical sector of the economy.

The public has until Friday 27 July 2018, to submit written comments to the department on the draft Charter published on 15th June 2018.

Members of the media are invited to cover the summit to be held as follows:

The following sessions at the summit will be open to the media:

Day 1, Saturday, 7 July 2018

Activities:

  • Opening address by the Minister
  • Remarks by stakeholders
     

Day 2, Sunday 08 July 2018

Time: 12h00
Activities:

  • Closing address by the Minister
  • Question and Answer session with members of the media


The following sessions will not be open to the media:

  • Commissions
  • Report back in plenary from commissions
