Minister Gugile Nkwinti hosts Communal Land Indaba, 29 to 30 May

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform will be hosting a Communal Land Indaba at Premier Hotel OR Tambo in Kempton Park from the 29 to 30 May 2015. Journalists are welcomed to attend the plenary session but the commissions will be closed to the media.

The Indaba will provide platform for delegates to make inputs to departmental policies.

The purpose of the Indaba is to discuss three thematic areas which are:

  • Communal Tenure Policy – both in traditional areas and communal held areas
  • Land Tenure Security Policy for Commercial Farming Areas (LTS) and Strengthening of Relative Rights for Persons Working Commercial Land – for residents of commercial farming areas.
  • Land Regulation Policy – to regulate foreign ownership and establish the land Commission.

The conference will be attended by 400 stakeholders from various sectors, including social movements; agricultural unions; farm dwellers/workers; landless communities; beneficiaries of land reform; traditional leaders and academics.
