The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Gugile Nkwinti will deliver the keynote at the opening of the Second National Khoi-San Dialogue to be held at Mittah Seperepere Centre in Kimberly on 10 to 11 April 2014.
The main aim of the gathering is deliberate on the resolutions taken at the first meeting also known as Kimberely 1, that was hosted by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in April 2013. The purpose of the dialogue between government and Khoi-San communities is find consensus on issues pertaining to the lodgement of land claims as it affects communities disposed before the 1913 Natives Land Act.
Restitution of Land Right Act No 22 of 1994 only allowed those disposed after 1913 qualify for restitution. The creation of exceptions to the 1913 Natives Land Act for heritage sites, historic landmarks and opportunities for the descendants of the Khoi and San will be under discussion.
