Minister Grant to attend holiday reading and writing conference for educators

Tomorrow, Minister Grant will be attending a reading and writing conference at the Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute.

The conference theme is “Teach, Apply and Live Reading and Writing.”

The aim of the conference is to share ideas, best practice and experience concerning reading and writing, different approaches to the teaching of reading and writing, intervention strategies for poor readers and writers, and the management of reading in schools.There will be several practical workshop sessions for educators presented by teachers who are lead educators in their fields.

Some workshop topic titles include: Teaching thinking skills for better comprehension, how to get learners interested in reading, differentiation and the teaching of writing in the English First Additional Language classroom, scaffolding writing and presenting for senior phase, stories on cell phones to get teens reading, differentiation and the teaching of writing in the English First Additional Language classroom, and teaching writing in a bilingual classroom.

Minister Grant will sit in on a few classes and thereafter there will be an opportunity for media to interview educators during the lunch break.
