Minister Gigaba to lead KZN provincial engagement to discuss the Durban–Free State-Gauteng Logistics and Industrial Corridor

The Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr Malusi Gigaba, and the Minister of Transport, Mr Ben Martins, will on Friday and Saturday engage with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government and key stakeholders to update them on the Durban-Free State-Gauteng Logistics and Industrial Corridor, which is part of Government’s Infrastructure development plan.

The two Ministers will first meet with the Business Forum to share with them the economic opportunities that will be available for private sector participation during the implementation of the Corridor, which is part of the Strategic Integrated Projects 2 (SIP 2). The Ministers together with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government will then meet Small Micro and Medium Enterprises and the Wentworth community to discuss the business and job opportunities that will arise during the implementation process.

The SIP 2 programme is aimed at promoting socio-economic development and maximising the distribution benefits of the equidistance from South Africa’s busiest port, Durban and the economic hub of the country, Johannesburg.

The provincial engagement will seek collaborative efforts by stakeholders involved, such as Transnet, in order to improve access to Durban’s export and import facilities and raise efficiency along the corridor.
