Minister Mbalula to announce new Director General for Department of Transport
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula will announce his Department’s new Director General (DG) at a media briefing on Wednesday, 24 July, 2019. The Department has been without a Director General since May 2016, after the suspension and later passing-on of the former DG, Godfrey Selepe. Minister Mbalula has made stabilization of the SOCs and Department’s leadership a top priority, saying “It is time that permanent appointments are made in crucial posts, starting with the DG, for the sake of stability, accountability and staff morale.”
Minister Mbalula will also re-emphasize the Department’s priorities around public transport and transformation of the maritime and civil aviation sector. “The aim is to make transport the centre of economic growth and to cause it to respond to the demands of our economy and social structures - we must realize a safe and efficient public transport system, while giving heightened attention to the commercial sector to develop it to good international standards”, added Mbalula. Minister Mbalula will also outline PRASA’s preparedness for the Fedusa National Strike. Members of the media are invited to cover the announcement of the new DG.
