Minister Fikile Mbalula launches the ThinkSport Journal

The Department of Sport and Recreation will be launching the ThinkSport Journal, as part of encouraging high quality discussions amongst various stakeholders in society.

The ThinkSport Journal will serve as verve for constructive debates on issues affecting sport in the Republic as well as contribute meaningfully towards the development of Sport at all levels of participation and all spheres of government and society.

"The ThinkSport Journal will serve as a high quality reference centre for sport practitioners, students, academics, researchers and stakeholders for further education and training as well as for academic and research purposes." said Minister Fikile Mbalula.

The inaugural edition of ThinkSport Journal themed "Developmental State - Olympic Performance" boosts contributors like the Steve Tshwete Lifetime Award Recipient Dr Sam Ramsamy, Sport Science Institute of South Africa's Ross Tucker, 2013 Orange African Nations Cup Chief Executive Mvuzo Mbebe, Prof. Danladi Musa - Professor of Exercise Physiology at Benue State University - Nigeria, Prof. Vincent O. Onywera - IAAF Athletics Academy, Kenyatta University, Kenya, Paralympian Natalie du Toit amongst others.

"To complement the Journal, the department will host ThinkSport Seminars, in the form of RoundTable, once year. The Seminars will be about debating and reflecting on the content of the Journal Articles." Minister Mbalula continued.

The launch of the ThinkSport Journal will be preceded by a symposium which will mainly be attended by the leadership from the sporting fraternity, where speakers will include amongst others Ashwin Desai, Hajera Kajee, Caster Semenya and Professor Danladi Musa.
