The Minister of Energy – Ms Dipuo Peters to officiate at the historic 5.6 millionth switch-on at Warrenton, at the Magareng Municipality

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the event at Warrenton, about 80km outside Kimberley where the Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters is scheduled to officiate at the electrification of the 5.6 millionth house on 6 June 2013.

The community will join the Minister, the Premier of the Northern Cape – Ms Sylvia Lucas and other dignitaries in celebrating the electrification programme of government and connections to houses since 1994 in both urban and rural areas. The country is 85% electrified and a new Household Electrification Strategy has been initiated to address the outstanding 15% through grid and non-grid means.

This event is part of the broader governmental stakeholder engagement process which serves as a platform to engage and sensitise communities of programmes and projects that are geared to uplift the socio-economic wellbeing of South Africans.
