Minister Ebrahim Patel addresses Public Procurement Seminar, 1 Jul

The Competition Commission invites all media to a seminar on Public Procurement. The objective of the Public Procurement Seminar is to engage with the public sector and private sector on how to implement Pro-competitive Local Procurement.

In 2011, Government, Business and Labour signed a Local Procurement Accord in terms of which certain sectors were to be exclusively designated for local procurement. This has the potential to impact negatively on competition and therefore the seminar seeks to explore and manage ways of implementing local procurement in the context of the Competition Act.

Amongst the sectors participating in the seminar are: mining, automotive and manufacturing.

Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel, will deliver a keynote address at the seminar and participate in a panel discussion.
