Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi leads the annual commemoration of the Rotary Family Health Days Campaign, 29 Oct

Bringing healthcare closer to communities: Minister Motsoaledi to lead Rotary Family Health Days campaign in Limpopo

The Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, will on Thursday, 29 October 2026, lead the annual commemoration of the Rotary Family Health Days Campaign in Burgersfort, as part of ongoing efforts to bring comprehensive healthcare services closer to communities, particularly those living far from health facilities.

The campaign is implemented in collaboration with the Rotary Action Group for Family Health & AIDS Prevention (RFHA), the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) and Marula Platinum Mine and other stakeholders. It demonstrates the value of partnership and shared responsibility in advancing the health and wellbeing of communities.

The initiative is aligned with the National Strategic Plan for HIV, TB and STIs, and supports the broader response to the country’s burden of disease, including non-communicable diseases and diabetes, which remains a leading cause of death in South Africa.

Rotary Family Health Days is founded on the principle that early detection, prevention and access to reliable health information contribute to healthier communities and improved life expectancy. The campaign encourages individuals and families to know their health status through regular screening and testing, to remain physically active, and to avoid risk factors such as smoking, substance abuse and harmful alcohol use.

The campaign also provides an opportunity for parents and caregivers to have their children immunised against vaccine-preventable diseases, including measles, diphtheria and rubella.

Minister Motsoaledi will be joined by government, private sector and civil society leaders, including the Limpopo MEC for Health, Mr Eddie Maila; Mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, Cllr Dorah Mphethi; Executive Director of the Southern Africa Programme for Rotary Family Health Days, Ms Sue Paget; UNAIDS Country Director and Representative for South Africa, Mr Alankar Malviya; and Marula Platinum Mine Executive, Mr Lucky Mnisi.

The following comprehensive health services will be available on the day:

  • HIV and TB screening and testing
  • Blood pressure and diabetes screening
  • Cancer screening
  • Childhood immunisation
  • Eye testing
  • Dental care
  • Family planning services, etc.
