Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters, together with the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Senzo Mchunu, will visit Nhlazatshe township on Saturday, 11 April 2015.
Minister Peters and Premier Mchunu will be joined by the Mayor of Msunduzi Local Municipality Mr Chris Ndlela, the Mayor of Umgungundlovu District Municipality Mr. Yusuf Bhamjee and also members of the community.
The visit by the Minister which forms part of the Presidential focus week, follows the Presidential imbizo that was held in Pietermaritzburg on the 20 of September 2014 by President Jacob Zuma in which the Department of Transport through the Minister was asked to facilitate relief and assistance to five poor households in Nhlazatshe which is under Msunduzi Local Municipality.
Through the intervention of the various stakeholders approached by the Minister, the department has managed to facilitate the building of standard RDP type three bedroom houses for the five household as well as job and education opportunities for members of the families.
Among the stakeholders who played an important role in providing assistance to the families include Raubex Group Ltd which built the houses, Msunduzi Local Municipality for providing land where the houses were built, Eskom for the electrification of the households, Road Traffic Management Cooperation (RTMC) which made commitment to pay tertiary fees for Zithembe Mbanjwa, one of the children from the five households once she complete high school.
Both the provincial Department of Education and Transport in KZN have also played a role in assisting the families.
The Minister and Premier will open the five houses and also meet with members of all the households. They will also interact and address community members of the area as part of dealing with issues of service delivery.
