Transport Minister and the South African Civil Aviation Authority unveil bursary scheme
Transport Minster, Honourable Dipuo Peters will, on Tuesday, 4 March 2014 unveil a Bursary Scheme initiated by the South African Civil Aviation Authority.
From the total of 27 858 active civil aviation personnel licences held by South Africans, only a mere forty (40) are licensed flight engineers.
South Africa has for the last few years been a hunting ground for carriers in well-heeled countries searching for highly trained aviation personnel. This means that local carriers do not only have to battle with the prohibitive jet fuel prices but also the cost of keeping their sought-after personnel.
The bursary programme is aimed at addressing skills shortages and transformation challenges in the aviation industry. The bursaries will be awarded to aspiring aircraft maintenance technicians, aeronautical engineers, and pilots. Other bursary recipients are expected to pursue training in avionics as well as aircraft structural work.
The details of the event are as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 4 March 2014
Venue: Pepperclub Hotel & Spa, Loop Street, Cape Town
