Minister Dipuo Peters takes ‘RAF on the Road’ to communities in Kimberley

Transport Minister, Honourable Dipuo Peters will join the Road Accident Fund (RAF) when it takes its services to the communities of Kimberley as part of the Department’s October Transport Month (OTM) Campaign for 2013.

The ‘RAF on the Road’ community outreach campaign will also be raising road safety awareness amongst road users.

The Minister and RAF executives will meet the communities, as well as those families who have been severely affected by the negative impact of motor vehicle crashes.

Stakeholders - particularly in the legal and medical fraternities – have also been invited to re-orientate themselves with the RAF’s day-to-day operations and reintroduce them to the Road Accident Benefit Scheme (RABS) Bill.

The campaign’s objectives include:

  • inviting eligible community members to claim directly with the RAF;
  • educating the community about the RAF;
  • making settlement offers;
  • assisting with claims enquiries, and,
  • providing support to rehabilitating accident survivors.

Since March 2012, the campaign has already called on 24 communities in the nine provinces and made settlement offers to the value of approximately R164 million.
