Transport Minister delivers newly-improved N2-18 in Eastern Cape
Transport Minister, Honourable Dipuo Peters will officially open the improved N2-18 National Road between Sithebe and Viedgesville in Mthatha which connects the two villages on Thursday, 20 March 2014.
The official opening forms part of government’s national roll-out of key infrastructure delivery which has a high economic influence and is of benefit to communities in the area, the Province and the Republic at broadly.
Improvements made to the road include 2 new bridges on Buwa River Bridge and Viedgesville interchange, 3 new major culvers cast in-situ, 5 new culverts using precast elements and a pedestrian bridge.
Over R340 million was spent on this initiative, creating opportunities for employment and skills development in the area while ensuring the provision of much-needed infrastructure and services.
Joining the Minister during the official opening will be Eastern Cape Premier, Her Excellency Noxolo Kiviet, Eastern Cape MEC for Transport Thandiswa Marawu, Local Government and Traditional Affairs MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane, both the Exec Mayor of King Sabata Dalindyebo and Mayor of OR Tambo Municipalities, SANRAL CEO Nazir Alli, senior national, provincial and Municipal officials, key transport stakeholders, members of the community and the media.
