Transport Department launches Green Paper on National Rail Policy
Transport Minister, Ms Dipuo Peters will launch the Green Paper on National Rail Policy at Monte Casino in Fourways, Johannesburg on Tuesday, 22 September 2015.
The Department embarked on the process of developing a rail policy in 2010 and has produced a Green Paper in this regard. This is the first step towards the formulation of a policy that will address the challenges facing the rail sector.
Minister Peters will host key stakeholders in the transport sector and academia to a breakfast launch of the Green Paper during which she will give a key note address.
A panel discussion will also be held with CEOs of State Owned Companies including the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), the Rail Safety Regulator (RSR), Transnet and senior executives from the Department of Public Enteprises and the University of Johannesburg.
This will be followed by a question and answer session which will give members of the press and other delegates the opportunity to interact directly with the Minister and the panelists concerning challenges and opportunities in the rail sector.
