Transport Minister takes Road Accident Fund services to communities in Upington and Rosedale
Transport Minster, Honourable Dipuo Peters will, on Saturday, 8 February 2014 visit and interact with members of the community in Upington and Rosedale in the Northern Cape province.
The objective of the Minister’s visit to the province is to take Road Accident Fund services directly to the affected communities.
Through the “RAF on the Road” campaign, championed by the Road Accident Fund (RAF), an entity of the Department of Transport road accident related services are taken directly to members of the community in all the provinces.
The RAF plays a critical role in providing post-crash and compensation services to communities.
During the 2012/13 financial year, the RAF on the Road community outreach campaign paid R171 million to deserving accident survivors and dependants of victims, successfully settled over 500 direct claims, interacted with over 10 000 people and visited 17 communities. In total, the RAF recorded an overall payment of R15.2 billion in the 162 claims that were settled.
Joining the Minister during the visit will be the CEO of the RAF, senior national, provincial and local government officials, traffic law enforcement officers, health practitioners, road safety officers and other key transport stakeholders.
The Minister and the RAF Road Safety will also hand over scholar patrol uniforms to Westerkind and Rosendal Primary Schools during the stakeholder and media briefing with the objective of further promoting road safety.
