Transport Minister, Ms. Dipuo Peters, will deliver a keynote address during the career expo for the Girl Child to be hosted in Upington, Northern Cape on Monday, 19 October 2015.
The Girl Child career expo derives from the need to open doors of learning and opportunities for female learners. Focus in this specific case being the existing transport sector environment, and possibilities to push the frontiers for the female career aspirants in the transport industry.
At the career expo department entities among others such as Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), Cross Border Road Traffic Agency ( CBRTA), Road Accident Fund (RAF), Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) will make presentations to the learners. They will share what career prospects and opportunities there are for learners, and encourage them to make use of available bursaries, learnerships, internships and other benefits.
A smaller number of male learners, in proportion to female learners, will be invited to create a sense of inclusivity.
A total number of five hundred learners drawn from over seventeen schools from the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, and twenty more young matriculants from Balelapa Household Project in Upington will be invited to this event.
The five hundred represents six local municipal areas of Groblershoop, Kakamas, Keimoes, Kenhardt, Postmasburg and Upington.
Minister Peters will be joined by provincial MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ms. Martha Bartlett, the Executive Mayor of ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, the Mayor of Upington, CEOs of the Department State Owned Entities and senior government officials.
