International Conference on Human and Animal Vaccines at University of Pretoria
More than two dozen local and international researchers will join industry leaders in animal and human health this week to take a critical look at vaccines and vaccine development on the continent.The status and way forward for HIV and tuberculosis vaccines, vaccine manufacturing capability in Africa and the state of vaccines and diagnostics for animal diseases are on the agenda of the conference entitled: Animal and Human Vaccine Development in South Africa: Past Achievements and Future Prospects.
The conference is co-hosted by Prof Gerry Swan, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria (UP), Prof Bob Millar, Director of the University’s renowned Mammal Research Institute and Prof Marc van Regenmortel from the University of Strasbourg. World-renowned virologist, Prof Erling Norrby, is also one of the contributors.
Mr Derek Hanekom, Minister for Science and Technology, will join the delegates to discuss the government’s commitment to vaccine development.
Journalists are welcome to attend the address by Minister Hanekom and/or any of the other sessions on the three-day programme.
