The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies in collaboration with Proudly South African (PSA) and stakeholders under the umbrella of the South African Fruits and Vegetables Canning Association (SAFVCA) will launch the Eat Safe, Eat Well, Eat Local Campaign on 16 April 2013 at Maponya Mall, Soweto. Members of the media are invited to attend.
According to Minister Davies the launch will educate the general public about nutrition. It will also function as a platform to market and promote the consumption of local produce to preserve and protect jobs in the Agro-processing spectrum. "This will also act as a conduit for the launch of new processed products innovated from the stables of Boland Pulp," said Minister Davies.
Minister Davies added that the event also seeks to emphasise the importance of consuming local produce with the aim of creating and retaining jobs. The other aspect of the campaign is aimed at educating school children about healthy eating given the high levels of obesity in the country.
Food processing companies Boland and Pulp , Proudly South Africa, CAASA, African Micro Mills to mention but a few will exhibit their product range and also make available food items to be cooked in the demonstrations.
