Minister Chabane to be honoured

Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane will attend the 2012 annual Xitsonga music awards hosted by Munghana Lonene FM.

Minister Chabane will be among the artists who will be honored with a special awards. Another special award will be bestowed on Richard Mthetwa a.k.a Nozinja for taking Xitsonga music to the international stage. George Maluleke will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, while the late Obed Ngoveni of Kuhluvukile Kazete fame will be honored posthumously.

Minister Chabane released 3 albums with Movement, a band he co-founded with Bezil Makombe in 1999 while serving as MEC for Public Works in Limpopo at the time. The music composed and recorded by Minister Chabane was influenced by Xitsonga and Shona indigenous instruments. The Xitsonga music awards initiative was first launched in 2002.
