Minister Carlisle to launch Pedestrian Safety week at Imbasa Primary School and Nelson Mandela High School

Tomorrow morning, Minister of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle, will be launching a pedestrian safety initiative as part of the second UN Global Road Safety Week (6 to 12 May 2012) which is dedicated to Pedestrian Safety.

In the Western Cape, the leading class of fatalities amongst road users are pedestrians, accounting for nearly half of the total road deaths recorded in the Province.

As part of the launch, Minister Carlisle will be participating in a scholar-focussed road safety demonstration at Imbasa Primary School at the corner of New Eisleben and Landsdowne Roads, and thereafter participate in a “Long Short Walk” for Road Safety starting at Nelson Mandela High School.

Minister Carlisle will also be talking about planned interventions, by Safely Home and the Department of Transport and Public Works, focusing on pedestrian safety
