Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande turns the sod for the construction of the Anene Booysen Skills Development Centre
The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Blade Nzimande, MP, will officiate a sod-turning ceremony marking the commencement of the construction of the Anene Booysen Skills Development Centre in Bredasdorp.
Anene Booysen came under national and international spotlight following her brutal rape, mutilation and murder on the fateful morning of 2 February 2013. In April of the same year, Minister Nzimande, through the Construction Sector Education and Training Authority (CETA) and in partnership with the Cape Agulhas Local Municipality, launched a R10 million skills development and job creation project in her memory.
Three-hundred (300) short skills programmes, 50 learnerships, 75 apprenticeships and 250 Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programmes were availed to benefit the community. In addition to these opportunities, a state-of-the-art skills development centre would be constructed.
During the event, the Minister will also hand over 21 bursaries tenable at universities and Technical Vocational Education and Training (former FET) Colleges.
It is in light of this background that Minister Nzimande and the leadership of the Construction SETA, Cape Agulhas Municipality and Boland Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College will participate in a sod-turning ceremony scheduled as follows:
Date: Thursday, 13 March 2014
