Minister Dlamini to bring relief to Masiphumelele families left homeless after fire
The Minister for Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will visit the families who lost their homes on Sunday in a fire that ripped through the Masiphumelele informal settlement in Cape Town.
On Tuesday, December 1, Minister Dlamini – together with the Deputy Minister for Human Settlements, Ms Zoe Kota-Fredericks – will bring emergency relief for the destitute families in the form of food, toiletries, clothing, mattresses and other essentials.
Minister Dlamini will also take with her a team from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to assess the families in order to register those who qualify for social grants.
Minister Dlamini and Deputy Minister Zoe Kota-Fredericks will also use the opportunity to assess the damage done so that a plan can be put in place to help the affected families rebuild their lives.
They will also visit the family of one of the two people who died during the blaze to offer their sympathies.
