The media is advised that the Minister for Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will be in Durban on Friday, 19 April 2013, to visit the Newlands Park Centre – a drug rehabilitation centre in Newlands. The Minister’s visit forms part of the Department of Social Development’s ongoing campaign against alcohol and substance abuse, and ensuring that organisations that have taken up the task of rehabilitating addicts and fighting substance abuse receive the necessary support.
Minister Dlamini is the convener of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Alcohol and Substance Abuse. The visit comes shortly after inauguration of the new Board of the Central Drug Authority by Minister Dlamini - an advisory body in terms of the Prevention and Treatment of Drug Dependency Act (Act No. 20 of 1992), mandated to assist in the fight against substance abuse in the country.
