Minister Dlamini to raise disability awareness at Adelaide Tambo Special School in Soweto

The Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will visit Adelaide Tambo Special School in Soweto to raise public awareness on disability issues. Minister Dlamini’s visit to the school is in support of last year’s decision by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to prioritise the mainstreaming of disability issues.

In support of the UN Convention decision, the Department of Social Development is also committed to the World Programme of Action Concerning Disabled Persons through the promotion of full participation and equivalent access of opportunities for persons with disabilities.

All the stakeholders in society including communities, families, teachers and parents are critical in support of the government’s commitment to develop the capacity of people with disabilities. This will assist the country to focus and prioritise issues and concerns related to disability.

During her visit, Minister Dlamini will interact with the pupils and educators of Adelaide Tambo Special School for a better understanding of their challenges, concerns and difficulties. The visit will assist the Minister to identify potential gaps which need urgent attention from the Department of Social Development.
