The Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga will host a Ministerial Disability RoundTable that will focus on “Children who experience compounded marginalisation as a result of profound intellectual disability”. The Roundtable will take place at the Department of Basic Education (DBE) Conference Centre in Pretoria on Monday, 23 November 2015 under the theme “No Child Left Behind”.
The Roundtable on Disability is part of the Disability Rights Awareness Month 2015 celebrations of the Department of Basic Education. The roundtable discussions will focus on challenges faced by Government to realise the constitutional right to basic education of all children with disabilities, especially children with severe and profound intellectual disability.
The Minister will deliver a Keynote address with the topic on “Realising the Right to Basic Education and Support for All Children, including those experiencing Compounded Marginalisation as a result of Profound Intellectual Disabilities”. Other speakers include Professor Roy McConkey, University of Ulster, Honorary Professor, Disability Studies, University of Cape Town and he will share International Best Practice Models.
