Western Cape community takes ownership of state-of-the-art primary school
Basic Education Minister, Mrs Angie Motshekga will tomorrow, Tuesday, 04 September 2018 hand-over Delft South Primary School in Delft, outside Cape Town in the Western Cape.
Built at a cost of the R75 Million through the Departments Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative (ASIDI), the newly built Delft South Primary School will be an institution of learning for 1578 of the community’s young members.
Much more than a story of brick and mortar, ASIDI schools are helping to restore the dignity and pride of people who had gone far too long deprived of facilities that are taken for granted elsewhere.
Consisting of 45 Classrooms, A Computer and Science laboratory, library as well as a nutrition centre, the new state of the art facilities are providing an environment that enables optimum learning and teaching.
ASIDI will continue to work in support of the Departments SAFE Initiative in partnership with the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) and The Nelson Mandela Foundation. Unlike ASIDI, which focuses on schools that had no sanitation whatsoever, the SAFE initiative will focus on schools where sanitation has been found to be inadequate or unsafe.
