Memorial services for Nyandeni horror crashes victims

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport will honour the memories of the eight students who lost their lives during two separate accidents in the Nyandeni Local Municipality Area on 14 and 15 March respectively.

The first memorial service will be held on 14 March at Njiveni J.S.S for Oneliswa and Abulele Peter who died after being hit by a motor vehicle along the R61 around Njiveni on 5 March 2013, one died instantly whilst the other passed away in hospital.

One person also died when the ambulance transporting the second Peter kid to hospital hit and killed a pedestrian.

Their funeral will take place on Saturday 16 March 2013 at the same venue.

The second memorial service will be held for the six Mabalengwe S.S.S students on 15 March 2013 at their school.

These students had their lives tragically taken away when the driver of the bakkie they were travelling in lost control and overturned at Sqikini Gravel road killing four of them instantly on 6 March 2013.

A fifth pupil died on route to hospital with the sixth passing away a day later, the eight other students including the driver were injured and six of those students are in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

The funeral of the six kids will take place at Mabalengwe S.S.S on Friday 22 March 2013.

Reports suggest that the driver of the bakkie was unlicensed to drive any motor vehicle on a public road.

The department has already engaged the services of Road Accident Fund to assist the families of the deceased.
