Over 220 Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Provincial Legislatures (MPLs) - will graduate from the sector’s Capacity Building Programme on Friday, 19 April 2013.
The 225 MPs and MPLs, who completed a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Governance and Public Leadership through the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), will be awarded their certificates at a special graduation ceremony to be held at the institution’s Johannesburg campus.
The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Governance and Public Leadership is part of a capacity building programme for MPs and MPLs initiated in 2009 by the Speakers’ Forum of South Africa, in partnership with the Public Administration Leadership and Management Academy (PALAMA) and institutions of higher learning.
The purpose of the course is to further enhance the performance of Members to execute their constitutional responsibilities as legislators, more effectively.
The ceremony will be attended by the leadership of Parliament that includes the National Assembly Speaker - Mr Max Sisulu and National Council of Provinces Chairperson - Mr Mninwa Mahlangu. Also expected to attend are several MECs, the EU Ambassador to SA, HE, Roeland van de Geer as well as the Wits Vice Chancellor -Designate, Professor Adam Habib.
