About the site visits
The visits will be led by Mark Tiepelt, Chairman of SABIA. The site visits provide an opportunity to see carbon neutral biogas facilities in action. The process of converting organic waste into electricity and its benefits will be explained to the delegation. The site visits form part of the events leading up to the National Biogas Conference taking place from 30 to 31 October 2013 at the DBSA Vulindlela Academy in Midrand.
The conference, which will bring together local and international experts in the industry as well as policy makers from government, will seek to identify opportunities, barriers and challenges to developing biogas as a renewable energy source. The biogas industry has the potential to create an entire new industry in South Africa with a market potential estimated to be in excess of R10 billion. It therefore has a significant role to play not just in electricity generation but also expanding access to sustainable energy for all, job creation, skills transfer, carbon mitigation as well as local manufacturing in the Rural, Municipal, Agricultural and Commercial sectors.
